Eveready Opens Alkaline Battery Plant in Jammu

New Delhi — Eveready Industries India Ltd. has inaugurated an alkaline battery manufacturing facility in Jammu, marking what it said is the country’s only operational plant of its kind.

The facility, located in Samba and inaugurated by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, has been set up with an investment of approximately ₹200 crore. It has an annual installed capacity of 456 million units, with a peak production capacity of about 360 million alkaline batteries, according to the company.

Eveready said the plant is intended to strengthen domestic manufacturing, reduce reliance on imports, and support growing demand for high-performance batteries in India and overseas markets. The company also plans to use the facility for white-label production and exports.

The project is expected to generate more than 500 direct and indirect jobs in the region at full scale. Officials said it could also contribute to local economic development and ancillary industries.

The plant includes sustainability measures such as a 1 MW rooftop solar installation, rainwater harvesting systems, and a zero-discharge design, the company said.

Eveready stated that the new facility will support its expansion in the alkaline battery segment, where demand is rising due to increased use of high-drain electronic devices. The company added that it aims to strengthen its presence in the premium battery category through localized manufacturing and expanded distribution.
