Indian Delicacy: HARA CHANA CHOLIA Recipe

Malvika Hada Kumar, Moj content creator who recently won of Kitchen Minister of India campaign from Haryana, shares the recipe for Hara Chana Cholia.


  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 2-3 Dry red chillies
  • 2-3 Cloves
  • 1 Bay leaf
  • 1-1/2 tsp Garlic, finely chopped
  • 2 Onions, finely chopped
  • 1 cup Tomato puree
  • 1/2 cup Yogurt, whisked
  • 1 tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder
  • 1 cup Fresh green chickpeas, pressure cooked for 1 whistle.
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Garam masala powder
  • 1/4 cup Coriander leaves, finely chopped
  • Water, as required


  • Heat oil in a pan. Add cumins seeds, cloves, dry red chillies and bay leaf. Saute until the seeds splutter.
  • Add garlic and fry for a few seconds. Add onions and cook until they turn lightly browned.
  • Add in tomato puree, Kashmiri red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and salt. Mix well and cook on low until it leaves oil.
  • Add whisked yogurt on low heat and stir continuously. Cook for 3-4 minutes.
  • Add in fresh cooked green chickpeas, water and cook for another 10 minutes.
  • Add garam masala powder, coriander leaves and mix well.
